Design of industrial plant

      1. General consideration:
a. Location: there are very important factors be considered in locating industrial plants & include
1. Raw material supplies
2. Transportation facilities
3. Labor supplies
Also should be have
safety system e.g. fire protection
b. Arrangement of building: Buildings should be arranged to permit economic production also with high safety and fire protection.
c. Overhead clearance: should be provided for roads and foot ways

2. Building and equipment's
a. Building includes:
1. Type of construction
a. Frame construction
b. Non combustible construction
2. Outside wall (doors & windows) prevent spread of fire
3. Horizontal cutoffs: where floor area are large
4. Vertical cutoffs: entirely cutoff from the other floor
5. Exits
6. Lightening: the ideal light is the day light from above and not from side windows
7. Color in industries:
Application
Color
Surface of electric switches
Yellow
First aid room
Green
Fire alarm
Red
Elevator
Blue
Storage area
White

8. Ventilation: factors effect in degree of ventilation
              * Amount & distribution of air supply
*Temperature, humidity, motion velocity, odor, dusts, bacteria & toxic vapor
b. Equipment: must be free from exposed moving parts and location in adequate working area
c. Processes: in close systems
d. Special safety protection equipment:
1. Head and eye protection as masks, shields &hats
2. Respiratory protection: gas mask protection          against special gases in concentration not exceeding than 2% in air.
E. Fire protection
1. Water supplies
a. Public water                  b. Revere
2. Fire alarm equipment.
a. Interfering.
b. Positive non- interfering.
c. Positive non- interfering & successive.

3. Automatics sprinkler systems: ↑temperature (fire) melt a soft solder          automatically discharging water on the fire.

4. First aid fire extinguishers
         a.  Non conducting electricity
          b. Cooling effect (Water)
         c. Smoothing effect (Blanket)
5. Fire protection equipment
a. Carbon dioxide (cooling effect)
b. Foam
c. Steam
