Tablet definition: it is solid dosage form contain
drug substances with or without suitable diluents & prepared by compression
or molding methods.
Steps of tablets manufacturing:
1. Weighting of initial
components ( raw material)
2. Mixing the component
material together to get homogenous powder mixture.
3. Granulation: powder
particles adhere to form large particles (granules)
4. Lubrication: addition of
lubricants to decrease friction between powder particles & between powder
particles and machine.
5. Compression: conversion of
powder of active ingredients to defined shape tablet by pressing it.
Machines
used in tablet preparation:
1. Mixers (powder mixers):

V-mixer: V shaped
stainless steel mixer
Advantage:

Easy to clean & discharge.
2.
Need low power & low maintenance.
b.
Double cone mixer:
di-cone shaped stainless steel mixer.
Advantage:
1. Has high convection mixing
(convection mixing is transferring of adjacent particles from one location to another.
2. Tablet pressing
(compression) machine: it is a
machine basically involve many punches & dies in a circular arrangement.
